Operationalization of Norms in Aircraft Approach/Departure Decision Support
نویسنده
چکیده
This work is focused on norm operationalization in aviation domain. The investigated paradigm can be described as: from legal norms to technical rules in the artifact. Normative requirements (norms) for the aircraft trajectories are extracted from the flight rules and airport procedures, and operationalized in a decision support system (DSS). The decision support is based on evaluation of risk to violate the normative requirement. The following risks are modeled: trajectories' conformance with the flight rules, safe distance between aircraft, wake turbulence separation and avoidance of volcanic ash. The DSS is for the air traffic controller (not pilot) and must respond in real time. It provides surveillance, evaluates and recommends, whereas the human controller takes a decision.

operationalization of norms in the sky-scanner Decision support system for aircraft approach and Departure*
The paper presents the SKY-Scanner DSS – a real-time decision support system for air traffic controllers. The system is based on the use of laser for aircraft tracking and assists the controllers in aircraft landing and takeoff. Decision support is based on the normative regulations that are currently applied to aircraft trajectories. The conformance alerting method is chosen. The SKY-Scanner D...
متن کاملModeling Path Violation in a Decision Support System for Aircraft Approach and Departure
The control of approaching and departing aircraft is an important function of the air traffic control. In the EU FP6 SKY-Scanner project, it has been proposed to use the lidar (laser radar, LIght Detection And Ranging) for the aircraft surveillance. It will improve the situational awareness of the human decision-makers – the controllers. As part of the project a decision support system (DSS) is...

This paper addresses the challenge of building an automated decision support methodology to tackle the complex problem faced every day by runway controllers at London Heathrow Airport. Aircraft taxi from stands to holding areas at the end of the current take-off runway where they wait in queues for permission to take off. A runway controller attempts to find the best order for aircraft to take ...

Air traffic management decision support tools have shown the capability to increase arrival traffic throughput of congested Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facilities without significantly impacting air traffic controller workload. NASA Ames Research Center, in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is playing a leading role in identifying air traffic management pr...

The Expedite Departure Path (EDP) is a decision support tool being developed at NASA Ames Research Center aimed at providing Terminal Area Radar Approach Control (TRACON) Traffic Management Coordinators (TMCs) with pertinent departure traffic loading and scheduling information and radar controllers with advisories for tactical control of terminal area departure traffic. One of the proposed feat...
